Gender equality cannot coexist with patriarchy. And sure, there are some women in power who support it because it works in their favour. But that doesn't make it ok. As long as patriarchal structures are upheld, all sorts of inequalities (gender, racial, ethnic etc.) will persist.

That is why it is so important to fight for equality for all. And in terms of gender equality, that means ensuring everyone can freely function in this society regardless of their gender. Everyone can have the same access to opportunites, the same rights, the same freedom, the same position and status. Sadly, in most countries around the world that is not the case. From laws and legislations to harmful sterotypes and attitudes, women and girls continue to be discriminated against and are victims of gender-based violence.
